What Information Should You Include in Your Wedding Invitations?

Choosing your wedding invitation design is such an exciting part of planning, but once you’ve settled on a style, the next question is often what information you actually need to include.

Your invitations should feel beautiful, but they also need to clearly tell your guests everything they need to know about your day. The good news is that you don’t have to fit every detail onto the main invitation itself - this is where RSVP cards and details cards can be so helpful.

Here’s a simple guide to what information to include in your wedding invitations.

The essential details for the main invitation

Your main invitation should always include the key information your guests need straight away:

  • your names

  • the wedding date

  • the ceremony start time

  • the venue name

  • the venue address

These are the core details every guest will need, and keeping the main invitation clean and easy to read helps it feel both elegant and practical.

RSVP information

Guests also need to know how and when to reply.

This might include:

  • an RSVP deadline

  • whether they should reply by post, email or wedding website

  • menu choices if these need to be selected in advance

Many couples choose to include a separate RSVP card, while others prefer to direct guests to a wedding website or online response form.

Extra details for a details card

If you have additional information to share, a details card is the perfect place for it. This can include:

  • accommodation suggestions

  • travel or parking information

  • gift list details

  • wedding website information

  • dress code

  • timings for the rest of the day if needed

A details card helps keep the invitation itself uncluttered while still making sure guests have all the information they need.

Evening invitations

If you’re inviting some guests to the evening only, their invitation should make this clear. This usually means including the evening start time and reception venue details, rather than the full ceremony information.

Keep it clear and easy to read

While it can be tempting to include everything, keeping your wording simple and well organised makes a big difference. Your invitation should feel clear, elegant and easy for guests to follow.

Don’t forget to check everything carefully

Before your invitations go to print, it’s always worth checking all names, dates, times and addresses very carefully. Even the most beautiful design needs the right information to make it work perfectly.

At Designed With Love, we love helping couples create wedding stationery that is not only beautiful, but also thoughtful, personal and practical for their guests.
