Save the Dates vs Invitations: What’s the Difference?

• you’re getting married on a weekday

A save the date doesn’t need to include every detail. Usually, it will simply feature:

• a note that a formal invitation will follow

What is a wedding invitation?

Your wedding invitation is the formal invitation to your day and includes the key details your guests need in order to attend.

This will usually include:

• your names

• the wedding date

• the ceremony time

• the venue name

• the venue address

• RSVP details

You may also include extra information on a separate details card, such as accommodation suggestions, travel information, dress code or gift list details.

Do you need both?

Not every couple needs save the dates and invitations, but many choose to send both.

If your wedding is local and fairly straightforward, you may decide to skip save the dates and just send invitations at the usual time.
